It started with a Facebook message. I am a nurse and a cat with a badly broken leg has been dumped on my farm. Can you help?
We said yes. So Shrek was brought to our veterinarian for X-rays to determine the extent of his injury and next steps for him. The x-rays showed metal particles near his spine and hip, a BB in his ear and a broken leg that had healed months ago but left his left leg in an awkward position which hindered his ability to move freely.
Despite some tough times and perhaps abuse, it didn’t take Shrek long to recognize people who wanted to help him. He is very friendly and Sheltering Hands stepped up to pay for an amputation to help him have a more comfortable life and found a foster home for him. Shrek is a doll and tolerated absolutely everything that needed to be done for his recovery. During this time he made a close friends with other kitties. He is a sweet, affectionate, active guy and would love a companion cat. It is not hard to fall in love with Shrek.
Shrek is FIV positive, but as we now know, this does not prevent him from living a long healthy life and is not transferrable to any other cats in the home. There's a lot of misinformation spread about FIV including it's a death sentence and highly contagious. Nei ther of which is true. You can check out more about cats and FIV here https://www.shelteringhands.org/info/file?file=26205.pdf.
Since Sheltering Hands home delivers each adopted cat, all adopters must live in the North Central Florida area. Thank you for understanding. You can meet this wonderful kitty by appointment with an approved application. Pre-adopt applications are available here: www.shelteringhands.org/info/adoption If you have additional questions you can email Sheltering Hands at firstname.lastname@example.org.
